As much as I hate her character, I appreciate the debate she is able to spark. I did ap preciate Shusterman’s work with Mary, though.
And don’t get me wrong! I didn’t dislike the characters (I loved Zin!), but there were just so many new additions that it felt like there wasn’t enough time for each of them to develop individually. Then Shusterman brought in a whole slew of new characters to interfere with this harmony he had created. I enjoyed getting to know them, learning their personalities and their flaws, and exploring their world with them. After Everlost, I had a connection to the four main characters. It had a wide array of characters, alternating viewpoints, and a characterized villain… yet, all of these things worked together to frustrate me and make me like this novel significantly less than I had hoped to. Review: So this story had everything in it that I like. All four of these Afterlights, as well as their respective followers, come together in one fateful battle that will undoubtedly change Everlost as they know it. Meanwhile, Allie is on a mission to find her family in Memphis by any means necessary, while Mikey is more concerned with keeping Allie’s love directed at him. Nick is trying to send the souls into the light, while Mary is trying to keep them all and expand her kingdom. Each of them has their own mission, though. Summary: Nick, Mary, Allie, and Mikey are on a journey through Everwild – the unknown territory of Everlost.
